About Lafuma
In 1930, the three Lafuma brothers started a backpack business in Annyeron, France. They revolutionized pack-making by inventing the metal-framed backpack, an innovation that allowed adventurers to carry more gear. In 1936, France introduced paid time off, a benefit that popularized camping and mountaineering. As a result, the demand for Lafuma backpacks took off, making Lafuma the go-to brand for French outdoor enthusiasts.
The rise of the car and the need for comfortable, portable furniture led Lafuma to branch out into folding camp furniture in 1954, and the company began selling outdoor clothing in 1992, becoming one of the first companies to sell an affordably priced Gore-Tex jacket. In 1995, Lafuma expanded further their outdoor line with the acquisition of Millet and Le Chameau.
